The tragic incident, which occurred early on October 5, resulted in the death of Elijah Hawkins-Maynor, 22, from Durham, and left three other individuals injured.

The Durham Police Department’s Traffic and Crash Team (TACT) disclosed that Palmer was driving a 2023 Hyundai Sonata at a perilous speed of 113 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone on Page Road. The car then catastrophically slid across a median, entered a wooded area, struck a tree, and became airborne before landing upside down in the road.
