Angier, NC (January 19, 2023) - A tragic accident occurred in Harnett County early Thursday morning, when a tractor-trailer slammed into a home, leaving it deemed a total loss due to structural damage. The crash took place on NC 210, just outside of Angier, before 5 a.m.
At the time of the crash, there were multiple people inside the house. One person, an adult daughter, was transported to the hospital with injuries, according to state troopers. The driver of the tractor-trailer told state troopers that he fell asleep while driving.
The driver apparently ran off the road about half a mile from the house, ran through a small fence, cut across a field then hit the home. The homeowner, who was devastated to see this happen to a house that's been in his family for nearly a century, said that his daughter has been released from the hospital.
The tractor-trailer driver may have dozed off at the wheel, according to the authorities, and the semi-truck struck the home after traveling off the road for nearly a quarter of a mile. The driver was charged with reckless driving and an open container.
Angier and Black River Fire Chief Austin Tew said, "Well this was the first one we've been to where the vehicle was actually in the structure. We've been to a lot where the vehicles have struck houses." He also added, "That's what we train for and we knew the first priority was to find the victims and remove them." Tew believes that given the extent of the devastation, it is a miracle that nobody was gravely harmed.
