Santee, SC (January 15, 2023) - A 25-year-old man from Santee, South Carolina, named Saquan Powell, was killed in a car crash on a highway in the Midlands. The Orangeburg County Coroner's Office has identified Powell as the victim in the tragic accident.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the single-vehicle collision occurred in the morning when Powell was driving a 2015 Infiniti Q50 north on Interstate 95. Near the 90-mile marker, the car ran off the right side of the road and hit a tree. Powell was the only person in the car, and no other injuries were reported.

Chief Deputy Coroner Sean Fogle stated that Powell died at the scene from multiple blunt force and internal injuries. The cause of the accident is still being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and no information about the cause of the accident or whether Powell was wearing a seatbelt has been released yet.

Through January 15, at least 18 people have died on South Carolina roads this year, according to the state Department of Public Safety. This is the first fatal collision reported in Orangeburg County for 2023, and it serves as a reminder of the dangers of reckless driving. In the previous year, 1,063 people died in crashes in the state, and it is important for everyone to be aware of the importance of road safety.
