The driver of the Dodge, identified as 31-year-old Maria Ramos, was rushed to Atrium Health Main with serious injuries. She remains in the hospital under medical care.
The occupants of the Land Rover didn't stick around. Both the driver and passenger of the Land Rover fled the scene immediately following the collision. A police officer who was responding to another call nearby was among the first to arrive at the crash site. Local authorities initiated a search for the Land Rover's occupants and managed to locate the 20-year-old female passenger, Nevaeh Washington. She was found near the crash site with injuries sustained from both the accident and a separate assault. Washington was transported to Atrium Health Main for treatment.
Despite extensive efforts by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the driver of the Land Rover remains at large. The Land Rover involved in the crash had been reported stolen on September 11, just days prior to the tragic incident.
