Charlotte, NC (February 15, 2026) - Local reports indicate that a 30-year-old woman was killed in a hit and run crash early Sunday morning along Freedom Drive in west Charlotte.

According to police statements, the collision occurred around midnight near the 2800 block of Freedom Drive close to Enderly Road. Emergency medical responders arrived to find a pedestrian lying in the roadway. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities later identified the victim as 30-year-old Deanna Moore. Investigators said she had been crossing the road when she was struck by a vehicle that left the area.

Officers obtained a description of the suspected vehicle and later located both the car and its driver. Police arrested 26-year-old Yolanda Brown in connection with the crash. Authorities reported that Brown’s vehicle had visible damage consistent with the collision and that she showed signs of impairment. She has been charged with felony death by vehicle, hit and run, and possession of cocaine. A report indicated that based on the condition of the vehicle, she should have reasonably known she was involved in a crash and remained at the scene. Brown was given a $250,000 bond. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed that Moore’s next of kin had been notified. The investigation remains ongoing.

Examining the Process That Follows a Fatal Pedestrian Collision

Incidents involving serious roadway collisions often raise a series of practical and legal questions for those affected. Beyond the immediate investigation, authorities typically review evidence such as vehicle damage, witness statements, and any signs of impairment to determine how the event unfolded and whether criminal or civil responsibility may apply.

In North Carolina, the evaluation of a fatal crash can involve both criminal proceedings and separate civil considerations. Insurance carriers, investigators, and legal representatives may assess factors including roadway conditions, pedestrian visibility, and driver conduct. Understanding how these elements are reviewed can provide helpful context for families and others seeking clarity after a tragic event.

Understanding How To Protect Your Legal Rights After A Car Accident

After a serious vehicle collision, protecting one’s legal rights begins with understanding how documentation, communication, and timing can influence the outcome of a claim. Even when criminal charges are filed, civil matters such as insurance coverage and compensation for losses follow their own process. Careful record keeping and awareness of applicable state laws can help ensure that important details are not overlooked.

Early organization often reduces confusion later. Preserving medical records, crash reports, and repair estimates can support a clearer picture of the financial and personal impact of a car accident. Monitoring deadlines and responding promptly to insurance inquiries may also help prevent unnecessary delays.

Key considerations frequently include:

  • Maintaining copies of all accident related reports and correspondence.
  • Tracking medical treatment and related expenses.
  • Reviewing insurance policy terms before agreeing to a settlement.
  • Understanding how fault determinations can affect recovery options.

Being informed about these procedural steps can help individuals approach decisions with greater confidence and stability during a difficult time.

Moving Forward After A Charlotte Car Accident

In the aftermath of a fatal car accident, families are often left balancing grief with complex administrative and legal matters. While each case is unique, many claims resolve through structured negotiations rather than extended court proceedings. Clear communication and a careful review of available evidence often shape the direction of these discussions.

Attorney Matthew Fleishman has noted, "When families are facing the aftermath of a serious crash, having steady guidance can make a meaningful difference. Careful preparation and honest communication help protect their interests when it matters most." Thoughtful evaluation of available options can help individuals understand what happens next after a wreck and move forward with greater clarity.
