Gastonia, NC (June 09, 2026) - Local reports indicate that two people were seriously injured early Tuesday morning in a wrong-way crash involving a motorcycle and a semi-truck on an I-85 ramp in Gastonia.

The crash was reported at about 2:30 a.m. on the ramp to I-85 north from US-321. According to police, a Honda motorcycle entered I-85 north, then turned around and traveled the wrong way back down the northbound ramp. While on the ramp, the motorcycle collided head-on with a tractor-trailer that was entering the ramp.

Authorities reported that the motorcycle was operated by a 37-year-old man and had a 24-year-old woman as a passenger. Both riders were wearing helmets, according to officials. The driver and passenger were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Their conditions were not available in the initial reports.

No other injuries were reported. Police have not stated why the motorcycle turned around on the ramp or traveled against traffic. The Gastonia Police Department said the crash remains under active investigation.

How Serious Crash Investigations Affect Insurance And Injury Claims

Crashes like the one reported in Gastonia are often reviewed from several practical angles after the initial emergency response ends. Investigators may look at roadway position, vehicle movement, lighting, driver statements, and physical evidence from the scene to better understand how the collision occurred.

Medical records also become an important part of the overall review. In a serious car accident involving a commercial vehicle, treatment timelines, hospital records, and long-term recovery concerns can affect how losses are documented and evaluated, especially when families are trying to understand the role of a truck accident attorney in reviewing those issues.

There is also a difference between an official crash investigation and a civil claim review. Police may focus on traffic violations or how the crash happened, while an insurance or civil review may examine medical expenses, lost income, future care needs, and the available insurance coverage connected to the vehicles involved.

What Gastonia Families May Face After A Serious Car Accident

As recovery continues, many people begin trying to make sense of medical updates, insurance paperwork, and the information contained in the accident report. After a serious car accident, open communication between a client and attorney can help keep the process organized and reduce confusion about what comes next. Attorney Matthew Fleishman has said, “People deserve clear answers after a serious crash. Strong advocacy starts with listening closely, reviewing the facts carefully, and helping families understand the choices in front of them.”

Insurance Questions After A Gastonia Collision

Insurance issues after a crash can be difficult to sort through because several policies may need to be reviewed. This can include the coverage available for the vehicles involved, medical payment benefits, liability questions, and how insurance companies evaluate injury related damages.

For people recovering from a serious collision, understanding the connection between legal rights and insurance obligations can provide a more stable starting point. Careful review of documents, photographs, medical records, and official reports can help show what information may still be needed.
