Lincoln County, NC (June 21, 2026) - Local news outlets report that two people were killed in a head-on crash on NC-16 near Sifford Road shortly after midnight on Sunday.

According to reports from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, troopers responded to the crash at about 12:04 a.m. A 2017 Ram pickup truck was reportedly traveling north in the southbound lane of NC-16 when it collided head-on with a 2021 Mercedes van.

After the collision, both vehicles became engulfed in flames. The driver of the Ram was identified as 33-year-old Alejandro Sierra Gutierrez of Vale. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes was identified as 36-year-old Jamar Louis Barnett Mishoe of Concord. He also died at the scene.

Local reports stated that investigators believe impairment may have contributed to the collision, though no additional details about that part of the investigation were immediately reported. Troopers remained at the scene for more than three hours while NC-16 was closed during the early morning investigation. The roadway later reopened.
