Granite Falls, NC (June 28, 2026) - Local reports indicate that a fatal wrong way crash occurred Sunday evening on U.S. 321 near Glenn Ridge Drive in Caldwell County.

According to reports from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, troopers were called to the crash at about 7:42 p.m. The collision happened between Granite Falls and Hickory. Investigators said a 2008 Honda passenger car was traveling north in the southbound lanes of U.S. 321 when it collided head on with a 2015 Nissan passenger car.

The driver of the Honda was identified as Marvin Wayne Anderson, 65, of Granite Falls. He died at the scene. The driver of the Nissan was identified as Corbin Ray Mcghinnis, 18, also of Granite Falls. He was taken to Frye Regional Hospital with minor injuries.

Initial findings from the Highway Patrol indicated that speed and impairment were not believed to be contributing factors. Authorities did not report why the Honda was traveling the wrong way. No charges will be filed in connection with the crash.

U.S. 321 remained closed for several hours while troopers completed the on scene investigation. The roadway later reopened after the investigation at the crash site concluded.
