Catawba County, NC (October 27, 2026) - A woman suffered serious injuries in a five-vehicle crash on Highway 16 in Catawba County, North Carolina. First responders said she was airlifted to a hospital.
The crash began around 9 a.m. Tuesday near Food Lion, just south of Newton. Troopers said the woman was waiting for a construction-site flagger when a pickup struck the rear of her car, causing it to spin into the northbound lane. A northbound SUV then struck her car, according to troopers.
The road had been reduced to one lane while a North Carolina Department of Transportation subcontractor cleared trees along the roadway. No workers were hurt.
Highway 16 was temporarily closed in both directions after the crash and subsequently reopened.
Treatment Costs and Daily Limitations
After a crash serious enough to require an airlift, the cost of emergency care may be only one part of an injured person’s losses. Pain, interrupted sleep and difficulty with ordinary activities can affect recovery in ways that do not appear on a hospital bill. A car accident settlement lawyer can consider those effects alongside treatment expenses when assessing a possible injury claim.
Those effects differ from person to person. Their significance depends on what the injured person actually experiences, how long the limitations last and the available medical evidence. The circumstances of the collision and applicable insurance coverage also matter when determining whether compensation is available.
Considering the Full Effect of an Injury
For someone recovering from a serious collision, an assessment of potential losses can include both care expenses and the disruption to daily life. Describing those effects in ordinary terms is a useful starting point; a person does not need to calculate a settlement amount before discussing legal options.
