Clinton, NC (April 8, 2024) - According to local news sources, a tragic accident occurred on Saturday evening in Sampson County, resulting in the death of a Wake County man. The incident took place at the intersection of US 421 and Mount Gilead Church Road, approximately 7 miles south of Clinton.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) reported that a 2007 Toyota Tacoma, driven by 41-year-old Bivino Velasquez Morales from Cary, NC, failed to stop at a stop sign. This caused the vehicle to collide with a southbound 2024 Freightliner tractor-trailer transporting pallets. The crash occurred around 8:17 PM.

The impact forced the Toyota Tacoma off the road, pushing it over 200 feet into a ditch. The tractor-trailer also veered off the road into a ditch. The driver of the Freightliner, William James Brinson Jr., 60, of Kenansville, NC, was unharmed.

Authorities have confirmed that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Unfortunately, Morales was pronounced dead at the scene due to the impact of the collision. The intersection remained blocked as troopers conducted their investigation.
