Charlotte, NC (January 11, 2025) - According to local news reports, a tragic car accident in east Charlotte Saturday night has left one person dead and several others injured, according to updates from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD). The crash occurred around 9:23 p.m. on January 11, 2025, in the 7700 block of E. WT Harris Boulevard near Delta Landing Road.
Emergency responders reported that the collision involved multiple vehicles, including a silver Honda, a white Dodge Ram pickup truck, a white Chevrolet S10, and a Kia. The incident resulted in the death of 40-year-old Yaneth Del Carmen Guevara, who was pronounced deceased at the hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash. Six others were hospitalized, including the driver of the Chevrolet, 68-year-old Felix Davila, who suffered serious injuries.
The preliminary investigation by CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit revealed that Mr. Davila was driving the Chevrolet S10 on the wrong side of the road, leading to a head-on collision with the Honda and the Ram pickup truck. The Kia subsequently struck the trailer hitch of the Ram. Excessive speed and impairment are suspected as contributing factors in the crash.
Authorities have issued warrants for Mr. Davila’s arrest, including charges of Felony Death by Vehicle and four counts of Felony Serious Injuries by Vehicle. These will be served upon his release from the hospital.
CMPD detectives, along with members of the DWI Task Force, Motor Unit, and Crime Scene Search, responded to the scene and the hospital to conduct their investigation. The Charlotte Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
The roadway was temporarily closed Saturday night to allow authorities to process the scene and collect evidence, but it was reopened by Sunday morning. Residents and drivers in the area have been urged to remain cautious as the investigation remains active and ongoing.
