Washington, NC (June 19, 2024) – According to local news reports, a tragic three-vehicle collision occurred on US 264 in Beaufort County, North Carolina, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to two others. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol has provided detailed information on the incident, which took place around 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
Elmer Ray Squires, a 46-year-old man from Washington, was driving a 2018 Jeep SUV when he failed to slow down in time and rear-ended a Honda passenger car. Following the initial collision, Squires’ vehicle crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2022 GMC SUV, causing the GMC to overturn. Squires was transported to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, where he succumbed to his injuries. The drivers of the Honda and GMC were taken to ECU Health Beaufort Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Fortunately, there were no passengers in any of the three vehicles involved. The Highway Patrol has confirmed that no charges will be filed in connection with the accident.
