Robeson County, NC (May 16, 2026) - Information provided by local reports and officials states that a single-vehicle crash occurred Saturday night on Lizzie Road near Iona Church Road, west of Fairmont in Robeson County. The crash was reported just before 11:00 p.m. along SR-2502 Lizzie Road near SR-2435 Iona Church Road.

According to reported findings from the on-scene investigation, a 2013 Kia passenger car was traveling west on Lizzie Road when it went off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a ditch and overturned several times before coming to rest upside down in a field.

Officials identified the right front passenger as 18-year-old Ta’Nyah Lynn Pittman of Fairmont. Reports state that Pittman was not restrained and was partially ejected through the sunroof. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Robeson County EMS and was later transported to UNC Health Southeastern in Lumberton.

The driver of the Kia sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence for treatment. The Public Schools of Robeson County later released a statement regarding Pittman, who attended Fairmont High School.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that charges are pending. The crash remains under review, and no additional confirmed details about the pending charges were included in the initial reports.
