New Bern, NC (June 30, 2024) - According to local news sources, a State Trooper was injured in a car accident on Sunday afternoon in New Bern. The accident occurred at 4:57 PM when 31-year-old Christopher Marsh crashed into the back of the Trooper's patrol vehicle on NC 55 at the intersection of Glenburnie Road. The impact pushed the patrol car 200 feet into the intersection.

The injured trooper, identified as Justin Lane, who works in Carteret County, was taken to Carolina East Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Marsh, who was estimated to be traveling at 60 mph, was charged with careless and reckless driving. He has a court date set for September 16, 2024.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) officials reported that prior to rear-ending the trooper's vehicle, Marsh sideswiped another car turning left on Neuse Boulevard near South Glenburnie Road. The trooper was stopped at the light when the collision occurred. All other individuals involved were checked and cleared at the scene. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
