Charlotte, NC (August 26, 2026) - Local news reports and official statements confirmed that seven dogs attacked a woman and injured three other people in northwest Charlotte on Wednesday morning.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care and Control, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Charlotte Fire, MEDIC, and the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office responded around 9:47 a.m. to the area of Claiborne Woods Road and Woodcock Lane. The incident occurred in the Claiborne Woods neighborhood near Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road.

Preliminary information indicated that the woman was outside her home when seven dogs entered her yard and attacked her. Authorities described the animals as pit bull-type dogs. Mecklenburg County sheriff’s deputies were conducting an eviction about a block away when they heard the woman screaming and went to assist her.

Witnesses reported seeing the dogs surround the woman and pull her to the ground. Her husband was injured while attempting to bring her inside the home. Two other people were also hurt while responding to the incident, bringing the reported number of injured people to four. The six surviving dogs were transported to the Animal Care and Control main shelter on Byrum Drive. The dog that was killed was submitted for a necropsy and rabies testing. Officials said none of the dogs had identification tags or detectable microchips.
