Charlotte, NC (May 21, 2026) - Local reports and police statements indicate that Roosevelt Davis III, 55, died at a hospital on Thursday, May 21, after a crash that occurred several days earlier in east Charlotte.

The crash was reported on Monday, May 18, at approximately 9:33 p.m. near the 6100 block of Hickory Grove Road, close to East W.T. Harris Boulevard. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers responded to an accident with personal injuries and found two damaged vehicles at the scene.

Police said a silver Kia Forte and a white Kia Soul were involved. Most reports identified Davis as the sole occupant of the Kia Forte and Andy Guardado, 23, as the sole occupant of the Kia Soul. Both drivers were transported by MEDIC to a local hospital with injuries initially described as non-life-threatening.

Investigators said the preliminary review indicated that Davis was attempting to make a U-turn when his vehicle collided with the other vehicle, which was traveling in the opposite direction. Guardado was screened for impairment and was determined not to be impaired.

Davis was pronounced deceased at the hospital on Thursday, May 21. Police said it remained unclear whether speed or impairment were factors for Davis, and toxicology results were pending. Authorities also reported that Davis’s next of kin had been notified.

No charges had been filed at the time of the latest reports. CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit continued to investigate the fatal collision.
