Robeson County, NC (September 26, 2024) - According to local news reports, a devastating three-vehicle collision on North Carolina Highway 711 in Robeson County claimed the lives of seven individuals and left one person injured. The tragic accident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. on September 26, 2024, and is still under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The accident took place when a vehicle carrying seven people, traveling westbound, sideswiped another westbound vehicle before colliding with a third vehicle that was traveling eastbound. As a result of the impact, the first vehicle veered off the highway and came to rest in a swamp. Tragically, three passengers were ejected from the vehicle, which subsequently caught fire. The names of three victims have been identified as 35-year-old Exima Jean, 29-year-old Fednie Eloy, and 37-year-old Orel Cacecus. Four other victims remain unidentified at this time.
The driver of the third vehicle, a 25-year-old man, survived with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The second vehicle involved in the crash left the scene, and investigators are still working to gather details about this vehicle. Authorities have determined that neither the second nor third vehicles caused the crash. Speed is suspected to have contributed to the accident, though it remains unclear whether the victims were wearing seat belts, and investigators are still determining if impairment played a role.
The State Highway Patrol Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the incident, and the Medical Examiner’s Office is working to identify the remaining victims.
