Winston-Salem, NC (June 18, 2026) - Local reports and law enforcement statements confirmed that a crash in Forsyth County left 61-year-old Robert “Bob” Anthony Marcis with life-threatening injuries after a vehicle reportedly fled from deputies and later collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Patterson Avenue and Germanton Road.

According to reports, Forsyth County deputies first saw a vehicle driving erratically around 12:30 p.m. in the area of Indiana Avenue and North Patterson Avenue. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver allegedly did not stop. Authorities said a chase began but was quickly ended because of high speeds.

Investigators later reported seeing the same vehicle again around 2:45 p.m. that afternoon. Deputies attempted another traffic stop, and the driver allegedly sped away a second time. Authorities said the vehicle then crashed into another vehicle at Patterson Avenue and Germanton Road.

Marcis was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries after the crash. Reports stated that he had left work early that afternoon for an eye exam, which brought him to the area where the collision occurred. He remained on life support in the days after the crash, and his family later made the decision to remove him from life support. Reports confirmed that Marcis died five days after the collision.

Authorities identified the driver as 16-year-old Eleazar Bernadino Medina. Reports stated that Medina was initially charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, felony hit and run with serious injury or death, felony fleeing to elude arrest, misdemeanor reckless driving to endanger, misdemeanor speeding, misdemeanor resisting a public officer, misdemeanor no operator’s license, and failing to stop at a steady red light.

After Marcis died, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said Medina was charged with second-degree murder under NCGS 14-17(b). Reports also stated that Medina is being charged as an adult. During a later court appearance, a judge advised him that the maximum sentence for second-degree murder could be life in prison without the possibility of parole. Prosecutors reportedly requested a $1 million secured bond, but the judge ordered Medina held without bond because of the violent offense allegations.
