River Bend, NC (November 04, 2026) - Both drivers were injured in a collision at U.S. 17 South and Eastchurch Road in River Bend, and one was later airlifted because of the severity of their injuries. River Bend Police Department officers responded around 9:27 a.m. Wednesday to the intersection in Craven County, North Carolina.
According to the preliminary police investigation, a white Chevrolet pickup traveling south on U.S. 17 entered the intersection against a red light and struck a black Volkswagen. Police said the Volkswagen had a green light as it turned north onto U.S. 17. The collision caused the Volkswagen to overturn and come to rest on its roof.
Emergency medical personnel transported both drivers to CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern. EastCare later airlifted one driver to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville because of injury severity.
At the time of the initial police account, authorities had not identified which driver was airlifted or disclosed either driver’s condition. River Bend police were investigating the collision.
Hospital Expenses Before and After a Transfer
Both drivers in the River Bend collision were taken to CarolinaEast Medical Center, and EastCare later airlifted one to ECU Health Medical Center because of injury severity. When hospital treatment continues at another facility, an injury-expense assessment can include care at both hospitals. The transfer does not make the initial treatment irrelevant or limit the inquiry to the receiving hospital.
An car accident attorney can consider the hospital expenses across that course of care, connecting each charge to the treatment it represents. For example, the first hospital may bill for an initial evaluation while the receiving hospital bills for later care. Reviewing both helps explain the course of treatment without mistaking a transfer for a separate injury. Accident-related hospital bills may be included in a bodily injury claim, but payment depends on legal responsibility and applicable coverage.
Help With Expenses After a Hospital Transfer
Recovering after a serious collision can involve care in more than one hospital. A legal conversation can help you understand whether an injury claim may be available and which treatment expenses it could address.
