Greensboro, NC (May 03, 2026) - According to local reports and police statements, a crash involving a marked Greensboro Police Department vehicle occurred at about 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of East Cone Boulevard and North O. Henry Boulevard in Greensboro.
Investigators reported that 25-year-old Haley L. Maeurer, who was then a Greensboro police officer, was driving east on East Cone Boulevard while responding to assist another officer. The patrol vehicle collided with another vehicle that was turning left onto North O. Henry Boulevard. Reports stated that the police vehicle struck the front passenger door of the other vehicle.
Xavier T. Crosson, 35, of Climax, was a passenger in the vehicle that was hit. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition after the crash and later died from his injuries on May 16. The driver of the other vehicle was also taken to a local hospital and was treated and released.
The Greensboro Police Department requested that the High Point Police Department Traffic Unit conduct the crash investigation. Investigators later reported that Maeurer was traveling 76 mph in a 35 mph zone and did not have emergency lights or siren activated before the collision.
Maeurer voluntarily resigned from the Greensboro Police Department. She was later charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and speeding. Greensboro Police Chief Kamran Afzal issued a statement acknowledging the seriousness of the crash and the importance of accountability. Police stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
How Serious Car Accident Investigations Move Forward
After a serious crash, the process often extends beyond the first police response. Investigators may review vehicle positions, roadway conditions, speed information, witness statements, emergency response records, and any available video or electronic data. When a public agency vehicle is involved, another department may be asked to review the crash so the findings can be evaluated separately from the agency connected to the collision.
Insurance review and civil claim evaluation may also move on a different track from any criminal charge or traffic citation. A citation can become part of the overall record, but insurers and claim reviewers often look at the broader picture, including medical treatment, lost income, vehicle damage, and how the crash affected daily life.
In a car accident involving serious injuries, the full impact may not be known right away. Ongoing medical care, follow up appointments, and recovery limitations can all shape how a claim is reviewed, which is why some people choose to hire an auto accident lawyer while the investigation and insurance process continue.
Insurance Questions After A Greensboro Car Accident
Once the initial investigation is underway, families often begin dealing with medical bills, missed work, vehicle loss, and calls from insurance companies. Having someone help organize those communications can make the process easier to understand, especially when several agencies, insurers, and records are involved. Careful documentation can also help preserve the facts as the claim moves forward.
