Randolph County, NC (May 29, 2024) - According to local news sources, a tragic car accident claimed the lives of Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Deputy John Davie Garner and his wife, Alisha Rene Garner, on their way home from vacation.

Deputy John Garner, 55, and Alisha Garner, 50, were returning from a trip to the beach when their Acura SUV failed to yield at a stop sign at the intersection of Rough and Ready Road and Old Stake Road. The vehicle collided with a tractor trailer from Old Dominion Freight Line, causing it to overturn and hit a ditch. The driver of the tractor trailer was taken to Columbus Regional Healthcare System for treatment.

John Garner served the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office for 22 years before retiring in 2021 and returning part-time as a bailiff. His stepdaughter, Breahna Yanez, remembers him as a loving and humorous man. “He’s the kind of guy who won’t tell you how he’s feeling. But before he goes to bed, he’ll come find you and tell you, ‘I love you,’” Yanez shared.

Alisha Garner celebrated her 50th birthday recently, and according to Yanez, it was a momentous occasion for her. The couple met about ten years ago on a blind date and married in 2018. They often visited the beach, which was their favorite getaway.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office expressed their sorrow on Facebook, stating, “During this time of loss, we are left with an emptiness that cannot be explained. We must hold true to our faith that one day we will see each other again. Rest Easy good and faithful servant, we’ll take it from here.”

The community mourns the loss of the Garners, who were well-loved and respected.
