Dunn, NC (May 13, 2026) - Authorities confirmed through local reports and law enforcement statements that a motorcyclist died Wednesday afternoon in a crash involving an SUV on NC-55 near Green Path Road in northern Sampson County, outside Dunn.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said troopers responded to the collision at about 12:06 p.m. Preliminary information indicated that a white Hyundai SUV was traveling west on NC-55 and attempted to make a U-turn. At the same time, a 2017 Ducati motorcycle was traveling east on NC-55 behind a pilot vehicle connected to roadway construction.

Investigators reported that the pilot vehicle slowed or stopped in the roadway. The motorcycle operator then passed the pilot vehicle and accelerated before the motorcycle collided with the Hyundai SUV in the eastbound lane, according to the preliminary investigation. Trooper I. Jaimes responded to the scene, and Sgt. Ashley Duff with the Highway Patrol provided information about the ongoing review.

The impact ejected the motorcycle operator from the bike. The motorcycle and its operator came to rest on the right shoulder of the highway, facing south, while the SUV was later moved from the roadway. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities did not immediately release the identity of the person killed while next of kin notification was pending.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the crash remains under investigation. Additional information may be released as investigators continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the collision.

What Happens After A Dunn Motorcycle Collision Investigation

As more details are reviewed, the full picture of a roadway crash can become clearer than the first reports alone. Investigators may compare vehicle positions, road conditions, witness statements, construction activity, and physical evidence from the scene to understand how the collision occurred. Early reports often provide the basic timeline, while later findings may add important context.

In a serious car accident involving a motorcycle, the review process may also include damage assessments, medical records, insurance communications, and official crash documentation. Speaking with a motorcycle collision injury lawyer can help injured people or families understand how those records are commonly organized and evaluated after a major crash.

Reporting timelines can also affect how a claim develops. Some information may be available within days, while other materials, such as final reports, medical summaries, or insurance findings, may take longer to complete. Keeping documents together and tracking updates can help create a more complete record as questions about coverage, responsibility, and losses are reviewed.

Next Steps For Families After A Dunn Fatal Collision

After a serious crash, practical issues often begin while families are still waiting for official findings. Preserving photographs, repair records, medical information, witness details, and insurance correspondence can help protect the record tied to a car accident claim. “People should not have to guess their way through the process,” said Attorney Matthew Fleishman. “Good information helps families understand what is being reviewed and why it matters.”
