Charlotte, NC (November 03, 2024) - As per local news reports, a devastating pedestrian accident claimed the life of 54-year-old Michelle Denise Onley on Sunday evening at the intersection of North Graham Street and Dalton Avenue. The incident has brought sorrow to the Charlotte community as further details unfold.

Around 7:24 p.m., emergency responders, including officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), Charlotte Fire Department, and MEDIC, arrived at the scene following reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Authorities found Ms. Onley unresponsive and suffering from life-threatening injuries. She was immediately transported to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries the following day, November 4, 2024, at approximately 12:29 p.m.

According to CMPD's preliminary investigation, Ms. Onley was crossing North Graham Street outside of a marked crosswalk when she was hit by a 2002 Ford Taurus driven by 25-year-old Elijah O’zion-Sadique McBride. The Ford, traveling southbound in the right-hand lane of North Graham Street, was approaching Dalton Avenue when the collision occurred. McBride stopped a short distance from where the impact took place. Authorities confirmed that neither speed nor impairment played a role in the crash. However, McBride was cited for driving with a revoked license.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit, along with Crime Scene Search, responded to conduct a thorough investigation. Detective Leung is leading the ongoing investigation. Police have urged anyone with further information regarding the incident to contact the CMPD at 704-432-2169, extension 6, or reach out to Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or via their website at charlottecrimestoppers.com.

Ms. Onley's next of kin have been notified, and the Charlotte community continues to mourn this tragic event.
