Cherryville, NC (May 19, 2024) - According to local news sources, a tragic car accident in Cherryville has left a family mourning the loss of their three-year-old son, Parker Vasquez. The Crouse family was traveling through Cherryville on May 19 when their van was T-boned by a truck at the intersection of N.C. 274 and Flint Hill Road. Parker Vasquez, the youngest passenger, took the brunt of the impact.

Angie and Phillip Vasquez, Parker’s parents, shared that Parker was flown to Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte after initially being treated at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, Parker succumbed to his injuries on May 23. His parents decided to donate his organs, hoping they could help up to 80 children in need. “He was so selfless. He would’ve wanted that,” Angie Vasquez said.

The community has rallied around the Vasquez family, with many people changing their Facebook profile photos to images of Spiderman in Parker’s honor. A GoFundMe campaign has raised several thousand dollars to support the family, and Bennett Funeral Service in Newton is assisting with the funeral arrangements. Parker's funeral will feature him dressed in Spiderman pajamas and a Spiderman mask, reflecting his love for the character.

Parker’s siblings, Ruby and Nathan, are struggling with the loss, but they are also showing remarkable strength for their parents. Angie Vasquez expressed her heartache, saying, “If I could trade places … I would just rather have him back.” The family hopes that Parker’s legacy will live on through the lives he can save with his organ donations.
