Tarboro, NC (April 16, 2025) - According to local news reports, a tragic incident occurred on the evening of April 16 when a pedestrian was fatally struck in a hit-and-run crash on Fountain Street near Mill Street in Tarboro, North Carolina.
Tarboro Police responded to the scene at approximately 6:45 p.m. after receiving a report that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle. When officers arrived, the vehicle involved had already fled the area. Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to ECU Health Edgecombe with life-threatening injuries. Despite medical efforts, the victim succumbed to their injuries on April 19.
Authorities launched an immediate investigation, during which they received a description of the suspect and the vehicle. A short time later, officers located the suspected vehicle and performed a traffic stop, identifying the driver as 35-year-old Larice Tyrone Taylor, a resident of Tarboro.
Taylor was initially arrested and charged with driving while impaired and possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage in the passenger area. He was released and scheduled for a court appearance on August 20, 2025, in Edgecombe County District Court. However, after the victim’s passing, further investigation and the emergence of additional evidence prompted new charges.
On April 21, 2025, Taylor was re-arrested and formally charged with felony death by motor vehicle and felony hit-and-run involving death. These charges fall under North Carolina General Statutes N.C.G.S. 20-141.4(a)(1) and N.C.G.S. 20-166(a), respectively. Taylor is currently being held without bond in the Edgecombe County Detention Center and is expected to appear in court again on April 23, 2025.
The Tarboro Police Department has not yet released the name of the victim, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Working with a Hit and Run Lawyer in Tarboro, NC
A hit and run accident can leave more than physical scars—it often creates emotional distress and frustration for victims who feel abandoned and unheard. In Tarboro, NC, hit and run incidents like the recent fatal crash on Fountain Street are painful reminders of how quickly lives can change. Having a hit and run lawyer by your side during this time is more than just helpful, it’s essential for ensuring that justice is served and that victims and their families receive the support they need.
A Tarboro hit and run lawyer takes immediate action to collect details about the accident, including witness statements, surveillance footage, and police reports. These early steps are critical, especially in cases where the driver left the scene. They also work with law enforcement when needed and ensure that any civil claims are properly filed and pursued. Whether or not criminal charges are involved, a lawyer’s main goal is to hold the right party accountable and help victims move forward.
Compensation in hit and run cases can include medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more. If the driver is caught and prosecuted, a lawyer can also help victims participate in the process and understand how the legal system works. Even in cases where the driver remains unidentified, an attorney can explore options through uninsured motorist coverage and other legal paths that might apply. It’s all about making sure the victim’s needs are addressed and that the family isn’t left to manage things alone.
Why It’s Important to Have Legal Help After a Hit and Run
One of the hardest parts of a hit and run is the feeling of being left behind without answers. A hit and run attorney in Tarboro can help turn that chaos into clarity. They step in to sort out the facts, speak with the right people, and file the necessary paperwork so you’re not left handling everything on your own. Having someone to rely on during such a confusing time can help restore a sense of control and provide a path forward.
In addition to legal knowledge, lawyers bring emotional support to the table. They understand what their clients are going through, and that understanding shapes how they communicate, respond, and represent you. A good lawyer listens and takes time to explain your options in plain language, never rushing or overwhelming you. That makes the legal journey a little less intimidating.
If you or someone you love has been affected by a hit and run in Tarboro, speaking to a local attorney can be the first real step toward healing. It’s about finding someone who not only knows the law but also knows how to support you through what might be one of the hardest moments in your life.
