Onslow County, NC (January 10, 2026) - Information for this report was received from local news sources and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol regarding a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred Saturday evening in the Queens Creek area.

Authorities said the collision happened just after 8:15 p.m. on Queens Creek Road. A red Yamaha motorcycle operated by Juan Rivera, a 53 year old man from Hubert, was traveling along the roadway when a white SUV entered Queens Creek Road from Heron Watch Drive. Investigators stated the SUV failed to yield the right of way while making a left turn.

Troopers reported that Rivera attempted to avoid the collision by laying the motorcycle down. Despite this effort, the motorcycle and SUV collided, and Rivera was ejected. He was struck during the crash and pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger riding on the motorcycle sustained serious injuries and was transported for medical care. Officials have not released updates regarding that passenger’s condition. The SUV was driven by 40 year old Kethia Massenat of Jacksonville and was reportedly operating as an Uber at the time of the crash with a passenger inside. No injuries were reported among the occupants of the SUV.

Massenat was cited and charged with failure to yield and misdemeanor death by vehicle. Court records indicate she is scheduled to appear in court on April 28, 2026. The State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
