Williamston, NC (September 06, 2026) - John Foriest, 76, died when the East Care Medical Transport ambulance carrying him crashed on N.C. 11 near Council Road in Williamston, North Carolina, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Foriest was pronounced dead at the scene in Martin County.
Troopers responded to the single-vehicle crash shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday. According to their preliminary findings, the ambulance was traveling south with Lauren Nicole McFadden, 29, driving when it left the right side of the road and struck a ditch culvert. The ambulance overturned multiple times and stopped with part of the vehicle blocking the roadway.
Emma Pridgen, an on-duty nurse riding in the rear patient compartment, sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening and was hospitalized.
Following the initial investigation, troopers charged McFadden with misdemeanor death by vehicle. The Highway Patrol said the investigation was ongoing at the time of its initial account.
Liability Coverage Limits After a Crash With Several Occupants
The ambulance rollover killed a patient and injured a nurse. If applicable liability coverage uses separate per-person and per-accident limits, one ceiling applies to an individual’s claim and another to all injuries arising from the collision. A per-person limit does not mean that amount is independently available to every occupant regardless of the combined limit.
The policy’s terms determine whether that coverage applies. Limits alone do not establish responsibility, the value of a claim or how a shared amount would be distributed. The public account did not identify the ambulance’s insurance or applicable limits.
Reviewing the Available Coverage
A car accident lawyer can review the policy and explain how its limits may affect the family’s or injured nurse’s circumstances.
