On May 13, 2024, at approximately 10:28 a.m., officers from the Fayetteville Police Department responded to a vehicle collision involving a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Cruz and a 2014 Honda Accord operated by Maxine Martin, an 81-year-old Black female, also from Fayetteville, NC.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the collision caused the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe to overturn, resulting in serious injuries to Cruz. She was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with serious injuries. The investigation indicated that Ms. Cruz failed to stop for a red light, causing the collision. The driver of the Honda, Maxine Martin, was not seriously injured.
This incident occurred at the intersection of Ramsey Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Freeway. The case remains under active investigation.
