Lincoln County, NC (March 17, 2023) - Local news reports suggest a tragic accident occurred on Friday, March 17, 2023, when an allegedly impaired driver struck a stopped truck in Lincoln County, resulting in the death of a 4-year-old and injuries to his 8-year-old and 2-year-old siblings.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the accident took place at around 1:15 p.m. on Startown Road near Ritchie Road, where a 1994 Toyota truck driven by 63-year-old Jorge Isabel Vivas had stopped to make a turn. Trooper Christopher Casey stated that 40-year-old Lincolnton resident Tracy Michelle Blanton, driving a northbound Mercedes ML 350 SUV, failed to slow down and collided with the stopped truck.
The 4-year-old tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The two other children were rushed to the hospital, with one facing potentially life-threatening injuries and the other suffering non-life-threatening injuries. Kimberly Campbell, Lincoln County EMS Manager, reported that neither Vivas nor Blanton were hurt in the crash, and both refused EMS treatment on site.
