Greensboro, NC (May 20, 2024) - According to local news sources, a tragic accident on I-40 westbound near Highway 68 in Greensboro has resulted in the death of a Liberty woman and caused serious injuries to another individual. The Greensboro Police Department has identified the deceased as Crystal Galvan, 47, who was driving a red Ford involved in the crash.

The incident occurred just before 10:15 a.m. when the red Ford veered to the right, colliding with a white Toyota and subsequently rolling over multiple times. Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene to provide assistance. Unfortunately, Galvan succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

A passenger in the Ford sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where they remain in critical condition. The driver of the Toyota, who suffered minor injuries, was not transported to the hospital.

The crash led to the closure of all westbound lanes near exit 210 as crews worked to clear the area and attend to the injured. The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) had projected that the lanes would remain closed until after 2 p.m., advising drivers to seek alternate routes and avoid the area to mitigate significant traffic disruptions.

Vehicles were diverted onto NC-68, and the Greensboro police managed the traffic flow, urging drivers to exercise caution and patience while navigating the detours.

The Greensboro Police Department's Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the accident to determine the exact cause and gather further details. More information from the North Carolina Highway Patrol is awaited to provide additional insights into the incident.
