The motorcyclist, later identified as 21-year-old William David Singleton from Greenville, was reportedly traveling at 89 mph in a 45 mph zone and failed to display a registration plate. Despite the trooper's efforts, Singleton did not stop, prompting a pursuit.
The chase led into Raleigh, with Singleton turning right onto South Wilmington Street and heading towards Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Authorities reported that the motorcyclist ran a red light at the intersection with Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, subsequently colliding with a westbound Dodge SUV. Singleton was pronounced dead at the scene, while the occupants of the Dodge SUV remained unharmed.
The accident also involved a minivan, which hit a light pole during the incident. However, no further injuries were reported.
This incident marks the second fatal motorcycle chase involving the Highway Patrol in Raleigh in less than two weeks. On November 15, another motorcyclist was killed during a pursuit on Interstate 40.
