Davidson County, NC (June 01, 2026) - According to local reports and statements from the N.C. State Highway Patrol, a west Davidson County woman was killed and two others were injured Monday afternoon in a head-on collision on Tyro Road near Helmstetler Road.

Trooper Whit Efird reported that Sherri Salinas, 59, of Lexington, was traveling west on Tyro Road at about 12:50 p.m. when a Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Crystal Moon Wise, 18, also of Lexington, was traveling east and crossed into Salinas’ lane of travel. The vehicles then collided head-on.

Salinas was flown to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, where she died from her injuries. Wise and her young son, who was her only passenger, were also taken to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Their injuries were described as not life-threatening, and they are expected to recover.

Authorities reported that both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, and the child was secured in a car seat. Trooper Efird also stated that neither speed nor alcohol was considered a factor in the wreck. Salinas was known in the community as the longtime church secretary at First Baptist Church in Lexington and had written the Churchland community column for The Dispatch newspaper for many years.
