Winston-Salem, NC (June 10, 2026) - Information from local reports and police statements confirms that a pedestrian was killed shortly after midnight in a crash on US-52 in Winston-Salem.
The Winston-Salem Police Department said officers responded at 12:01 a.m. to US-52 North under the Liberty Street Bridge after receiving a report of a crash involving a pedestrian. At the scene, officers found a 2010 Honda that had been involved in an apparent collision with a person in the roadway.
Police later identified the pedestrian as Harold Lee Bost, a 71-year-old man. Authorities said Bost was found deceased in the travel lanes from injuries sustained in the crash. His next of kin was notified following the identification.
According to preliminary findings, the Honda was traveling north on US-52 when it struck Bost, who was in the travel lanes for reasons that had not been determined. Police said Bost was wearing dark clothing, and the roadway was dark at the time of the collision.
The driver, identified by police as Jose Isabel Troncoso-Ortiz, was not injured. Authorities said he remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No charges were announced in the initial reports.
The Winston-Salem Police Department Traffic Enforcement Unit responded and took over the investigation. US-52 North was closed during the early morning hours while investigators worked at the scene, with reports indicating the northbound lanes reopened around 5:38 a.m. Both northbound and southbound lanes between Liberty Street and Akron Drive were later reported reopened. The investigation remained ongoing.
How Pedestrian Accident Reviews Often Continue After A Reported Crash
After the initial police response ends, a reported collision may still involve several follow-up steps. Investigators may review roadway conditions, vehicle position, lighting, witness statements, and any available video or physical evidence. These details can help clarify how the crash occurred and may also become part of insurance or civil claim review.
In a car accident involving a pedestrian, medical assessments and official findings often help document the nature and extent of injuries involved. Families and injured parties may also review with a pedestrian accident lawyer to better understand how these matters are commonly evaluated after an investigation begins.
Insurance issues can move forward while police continue reviewing the facts. Vehicle damage, scene measurements, crash reports, and communication from insurance carriers may all become part of the process. Keeping records organized can make it easier to understand what has been confirmed and what questions remain unresolved.
