Selma, NC (June 15, 2026) - According to local reports and preliminary information from authorities, a pickup truck towing an enclosed trailer was struck by a freight train late Monday night near Selma after the driver reportedly turned onto railroad tracks.
The crash happened around 11 p.m. at the Lizzie Mill Road railroad crossing. Officials said the pickup was traveling in the area when the driver mistakenly turned southbound onto the railroad tracks. A northbound CSX freight train then collided with the vehicle.
The driver was able to get out of the pickup before the collision and suffered minor injuries. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities said impairment is believed to have been a factor, and the driver is expected to face several charges.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and had not released the driver’s name pending completion of its accident report. The train did not have reported damage, and railroad personnel inspected it before it was cleared to continue.
The crash temporarily disrupted rail traffic through the area. Several freight trains and an Amtrak passenger train were delayed while crews responded and removed the damaged vehicle from the tracks. Rail traffic resumed around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.
What Investigators Often Review After A Railroad Crossing Crash
Traffic incidents involving railroad crossings can involve more than the initial crash scene. Investigators may review the vehicle’s path of travel, crossing conditions, witness statements, train movement, signal equipment, and any available video or physical evidence before completing a final report.
In a car accident involving a train or other large commercial vehicle, additional information can become available as agencies, insurance carriers, and transportation personnel complete their separate reviews. People with questions about how those findings may affect insurance issues may choose to speak with a truck accident attorney to better understand what records and timelines may matter.
Insurance companies often examine the official crash report, medical records, photographs, repair documentation, and statements from those involved. Because these reviews may take time, early details can change or become more complete as reports are finalized and supporting records are gathered.
Reviewing Next Steps After A Selma Car Accident
As medical treatment, crash reports, and insurance reviews move forward, many people begin to have practical questions about expenses, vehicle damage, missed work, and what the official findings may mean. After a car accident, realistic expectations often start with understanding what is documented, what remains under review, and which records may be needed before major decisions are made.
