The driver of the Honda Passport, identified as 16-year-old Ashton Henry Rahlfs, was arrested and charged with driving while impaired, driving after consuming alcohol under 21, and violating his provisional license conditions. His breath test registered a blood alcohol content of 0.11, exceeding North Carolina’s legal limit of 0.08. Police records also show that Rahlfs was not permitted to drive after 9 p.m. or carry more than one passenger under 21.
The driver of the Honda Civic, 19-year-old Brandon Russell, was hospitalized with serious injuries, including a broken rib and a collapsed lung. A passenger in the Passport also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
Officers from the Holly Springs Police Department closed Avent Ferry Road in both directions for several hours as they conducted their investigation.
