Farmville, NC (September 06, 2026) - According to local reports and North Carolina State Highway Patrol statements, a driver struck a stationary fire engine on I-587 while emergency crews were responding to an earlier fatal collision. The crash injured a firefighter and left the driver, identified as 22-year-old Victor Manuel Gonzalez of Chocowinity, with serious injuries.

Troopers and the Farmville Fire Department had responded to a fatal crash involving an occupant pinned in a vehicle at the NC-121 overpass near Farmville in Pitt County. Gonzalez was also transported to ECU Health Medical Center with serious injuries. The Highway Patrol said he was charged with driving while impaired and reckless driving.
