Faison, NC (August 04, 2026) - Based on reports from local authorities, a head-on collision on NC-403 near Auctioneer Road killed one driver and injured another at approximately 5:30 a.m.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2012 Nissan pickup was traveling north when its driver attempted to pass another northbound vehicle. The Nissan entered the southbound lane and collided head-on with a southbound 2018 Chevrolet pickup.

After the impact, the Nissan left the roadway, entered a ditch, and overturned. Its driver, 51-year-old Thelma Matute-Calix of Clinton, was ejected from the vehicle. She died while being transported to Wake Medical Center. Authorities reported that she was not wearing a seat belt.
