According to authorities, the collision occurred at the intersection of Starnes Randall Road and Harrisburg Road, in the 8600 block of Harrisburg Road near First Run Court. Emergency crews from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, the Charlotte Fire Department, and MEDIC responded to reports of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle at approximately 1:12 a.m.
Upon arrival, first responders located Eric Neigenfind, 37, lying unresponsive slightly off the roadway near the curb. MEDIC pronounced him deceased at the scene. Investigators stated that he was found just to the right of the roadway near the intersection.
Police identified the vehicle involved as a Honda Accord that was stopped at the intersection of Harrisburg Road and First Run Court when officers arrived. The driver, identified as 42-year-old Tony Derell Hawk, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Preliminary findings from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit indicate that speed does not appear to have been a contributing factor in the crash. The driver was screened for impairment and was not found to be impaired at the time of the collision. Authorities reported that a toxicology report for Neigenfind is pending, and impairment on his part has not yet been determined.
