Wilkesboro, NC (May 01, 2026) - Authorities confirmed through local reports and police statements that a 19-year-old Wilkesboro resident died after a collision involving a passenger vehicle and construction equipment on U.S.-421 around midnight Friday morning.

According to the Wilkesboro Police Department, officers responded to the crash shortly after 12 a.m. on May 1. Investigators said the collision involved a 2007 Chevrolet Impala operated by Dillion Mullis, 19, of Wilkesboro, and a 2023 Caterpillar construction vehicle operated by Miguel Benitez, 44, of Lexington.
