Raleigh, NC (June 13, 2026) - According to preliminary information from local reports and police statements, Raleigh officers responded around 3:09 a.m. to the 3300 block of Buffaloe Road after a reported hit and run crash involving a pedestrian.

When officers arrived, they found 32-year-old Detrick Arnold deceased in the roadway. Police said Arnold was in the road at the time of the crash, though investigators had not confirmed whether he was crossing, walking, or standing in the roadway before he was struck.

Preliminary findings indicate that a large SUV struck Arnold and left the scene, continuing outbound on Buffaloe Road. Authorities also reported that at least one additional vehicle ran over Arnold after he was already down in the roadway.

The crash happened on Buffaloe Road near Oates Drive shortly before 3:15 a.m., according to local reports. Police were still looking for the driver of the SUV, and anyone with information was asked to contact the Raleigh Police Department.

The fatal crash remains under investigation.

How Hit And Run Investigations May Affect Families In Raleigh

Incidents like this are often reviewed more closely after the first emergency response, especially when a driver leaves the scene. Investigators may look at roadway evidence, vehicle descriptions, traffic cameras, witness statements, and the timing of each reported impact to understand what happened and which vehicles were involved.

A pedestrian crash can raise difficult questions for families because the facts may take time to develop. In a car accident involving a person on foot, the circumstances surrounding visibility, roadway position, vehicle movement, and later impacts can all influence how insurance and claims issues are evaluated. A pedestrian accident lawyer may help explain the kinds of issues that often come up after these events.

When more than one vehicle may have been involved, the review can become more complex. Insurance coverage, comparative fault rules, and the order of events may all matter when officials, insurers, or other parties assess responsibility. Families are often left waiting for updates while the investigation continues, which can make practical decisions feel harder during an already difficult period.
