King City, North Carolina (January 28, 2023) - A 14-year-old boy, Denim Bradshaw, died in a bull-riding accident at the Rafter K. Rodeo Winter Series in King, North Carolina which was being held at the American Legion Post 290 on South Main Street. On Saturday, EMS services were summoned to the rodeo approximately 15 miles northwest of Winston-Salem, just before 8:30 p.m. The call was in response to a report of a cardiac arrest incident that had occurred at the rodeo.

According to Stokes County Emergency Management Director Brandon Gentry, first responders were called to the scene for a cardiac arrest report. Denim Bradshaw unfortunately passed away despite the efforts of paramedics. In a statement, the rodeo company identified the victim as Denim Bradshaw and offered condolences to his family.

Denim had dreams of becoming a police officer and had a passion for bull riding. He loved the boots, cowboy hats, and big belt buckles associated with the sport. On January 28th, he got to ride his first bull, an exciting moment in his life, but it proved to be fatal.

According to eyewitnesses, the teenager was placed on top of the bull inside the chute. However, prior to the gates opening, the bull violently bucked twice while trashing inside the chute, causing the young man to be thrown to the ground underneath the bull's hooves.

After the accident, a GoFundMe page was started to raise funds for Denim's funeral expenses. The page stated, "No one expects to lose such a young soul, and we were not prepared." Denim's mother, Shannon Bowman, wrote a Facebook post about her son's death, saying "Last night was the longest night of my life. My beautiful, handsome, 14-year-old son went to be with the lord. I awoke to a nightmare for the rest of [my] life."

Rafter K Rodeo Company, located in Union Grove, released a statement expressing their condolences to Denim's family and asking for everyone to come together and pray for the family during this difficult time. The company stated "Everyone here at Rafter K Rodeo Company, LLC would like to give our sincere condolences to the family and friends of bull rider, Denim Bradshaw. This is a tragic event and words cannot describe the pain felt by this loss. We ask everyone to come together and pray for his family for comfort and healing during this difficult time." The rodeo company went on to say "Our sport is truly a family and we are so thankful for everyone that was there to help. We are thankful for our on site EMT's, paramedics and law enforcement that work so hard to care for the cowboys."

His family says they are beyond devastated by the loss of their sweet 14-year-old boy.
