Four Oaks, NC (May 31, 2024) - According to local news sources, a Johnston County man tragically lost his life early Friday morning after his disabled vehicle was struck on the shoulder of Interstate 95. The collision occurred at approximately 4:57 am near the 86-mile marker, just south of Keen Road.

Authorities report that Dannie B. Norris Jr., age 53, of Benson, NC, was driving a 2005 Kia Rio northbound on I-95 when his right rear tire failed. Norris pulled over to the shoulder and stopped the car. The vehicle was stationary with no lights on and the keys out of the ignition. While Norris was seated in the driver’s seat, a 2022 Volvo tractor trailer, driven by 43-year-old Horouna Toure of St. Darby, PA, drifted onto the shoulder and struck the Kia, resulting in Norris's death.

The Highway Patrol confirmed that Toure has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to maintain lane control. They noted that speed was not a factor in the crash, but inattention contributed to the tragic incident. Following the accident, both northbound lanes of I-95 were closed but reopened at 8:37 am.
