Charlotte, NC (June 9, 2024) - According to local news reports, a tragic hit-and-run incident occurred on North Tryon Street in northeast Charlotte on Sunday night, resulting in the death of 62-year-old Curtis Bing. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officials confirmed that the accident took place around 10 p.m. near the intersection of North Tryon Street and Orr Road.

Officers responding to the scene found Bing lying unresponsive in the roadway. Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police revealed that Bing was riding his electric scooter eastbound on North Tryon Street when he was struck by a car traveling in the same direction. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene before officers arrived and did not return.

Eyewitnesses are urged to contact Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600 with any information that may assist in locating the suspect. CMPD has not yet released a description of the vehicle or the driver involved. Additionally, it was noted that Bing was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, and his toxicology report is pending. Crime scene investigators observed multiple evidence markers and debris scattered across the roadway, leading to the temporary closure of North Tryon Street in both directions.
