Bladen County, NC (July 06, 2026) - Initial information from local reports and law enforcement statements indicates that a motorcyclist died Monday after a crash on NC-87 during a pursuit involving deputies with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash was reported at about 5:03 p.m. at the intersection of NC-87 and Kennedy Store Road in Bladen County. The motorcyclist was identified as Coleton Michael Newman, 20. Local reports also stated that Newman was a U.S. Army soldier stationed at Fort Bragg near Fayetteville.

Troopers reported that Newman was traveling on a motorcycle while being pursued by Columbus County deputies when he collided with a Toyota at the intersection. One report described the impact as the motorcycle rear ending the Toyota. Newman was thrown from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota was taken to Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life threatening. Authorities have not released additional information explaining why Newman was being pursued.

The crash closed all lanes of NC-87 in both directions near Kennedy Store Road for about an hour. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that the investigation remains ongoing.

How Motorcycle Accident Reviews Often Continue After A Bladen County Crash

Traffic crashes can involve more questions than the first report is able to answer. After a serious collision, investigators may continue reviewing the roadway, vehicle damage, witness statements, emergency response records, and any available law enforcement information before the full picture becomes clearer.

In a car accident involving a motorcycle, insurance adjusters often compare several sources of information before making decisions about injury claims, property damage, and coverage issues. People trying to understand those decisions may look for general information from a motorcycle accident injury lawyer when questions involve medical costs, lost income, or how damages are evaluated.

These reviews can take time because liability decisions may depend on multiple facts, including road position, timing, traffic conditions, statements from those involved, and official findings. A careful process helps separate confirmed information from assumptions, especially when several agencies or insurance companies may be reviewing the same event.

What Families May Face After A Bladen County Car Accident

After the immediate response ends, families may still have to manage medical bills, insurance calls, vehicle issues, and questions about what the investigation may show. Legal counsel can help explain available options, organize important records, and reduce confusion when different parties request information. “A serious crash can leave people unsure about what matters most in the days that follow,” said Attorney Matthew Fleishman. “Taking time to understand the process and preserve key information can help families make more informed decisions.”
