Raeford, NC (June 06, 2026) - Local reports and official statements confirmed that deputies with the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office responded to Grove Walk Road in Raeford after a 5-year-old child was struck by a vehicle on Saturday afternoon.

Authorities reported that the crash happened at approximately 4:34 p.m. Deputies said the child was found in the roadway with serious injuries. Emergency medical personnel, firefighters, and deputies provided immediate aid at the scene before the child was transported to FirstHealth Hoke.

Officials said the child was later flown to UNC Health for additional treatment. The child later died from injuries sustained in the collision. Reports indicated the child had been riding a bike at the time of the incident.

The Hoke County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is continuing to investigate the crash. Deputies said they interviewed people at the scene and identified a person of interest, but no arrests had been made as of the latest reported update.

Authorities also noted that another child had been struck by a vehicle less than 24 hours earlier in a separate incident on Poole Road in Hoke County. That child was expected to recover, according to deputies.

The Hoke County Sheriff’s Office asked anyone who witnessed the Grove Walk Road incident or has information about the investigation to contact the office at 910-875-5111.

Reviewing The Investigation Process After A Raeford Pedestrian Crash

Incidents involving a child and a vehicle often lead to a careful review of the surrounding facts. After the initial emergency response, investigators may look at the location of impact, the timing of the report, roadway conditions, witness accounts, and any available records that help explain how the incident occurred.

In a car accident involving a pedestrian or bicyclist, determining what happened can require a close look at timelines, medical records, statements, and the movement of the vehicle before impact. Families reviewing these issues may also encounter questions that are commonly discussed with pedestrian accident compensation attorneys when trying to understand how reports, insurance records, and injury documentation fit together.

A structured review can help separate confirmed facts from unanswered questions. This matters because early reports may be limited, especially when an investigation remains active and officials are avoiding the release of details that have not yet been verified.
