Four Oaks, NC (January 06, 2026) - Information was received from local news sources regarding a late night vehicle crash tied to a high speed pursuit that unfolded in Johnston County and ended near the Keen Road exit off Interstate 95.

According to reports, the incident began around 10:42 p.m. Monday when North Carolina State Highway Patrol attempted to stop a black Ford pickup truck traveling southbound on I 95 for speeding. Troopers reported the truck was traveling approximately 95 miles per hour in a 65 mile per hour zone. After initially pulling onto the shoulder, the driver accelerated and fled, prompting a pursuit.

During the chase, the pickup reportedly passed vehicles using the left shoulder and struck a guardrail in the median before continuing south. Authorities say the truck exited I 95 at Exit 87 onto Keen Road, ran off the roadway into an open field, and then reentered the road at a high rate of speed. As the truck crossed the intersection of I 95 southbound and Keen Road, it became airborne and collided with a white Chevrolet Traverse.

The Traverse was driven by Corayma Flores, 31, of Four Oaks. Emergency responders transported Flores to UNC Health in Smithfield, where she was treated for minor injuries. The pickup continued across Keen Road, struck a fence, and traveled down an embankment before becoming disabled near a mobile home.

Two occupants exited the pickup and fled into nearby woods, leading to an overnight search involving North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Four Oaks Police Department, Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, and a Clayton Police Department K 9 unit. Residents reported individuals matching the suspects’ descriptions knocking on doors asking for rides, and investigators reviewed nearby surveillance footage.

During a search of the abandoned truck, troopers located a 9mm handgun that was later confirmed stolen from Augusta, Maine. Authorities also learned the pickup had been reported stolen from Henrico, Virginia. The search was temporarily suspended overnight.

On Tuesday morning, deputies responded to a report of suspicious persons near Parker Road and Temple Street, close to the crash site. Two juveniles were taken into custody and later identified as a 15 year old male and a 16 year old female, both reported as runaways from Augusta, Maine. Investigators confirmed the male was driving the truck at the time of the pursuit.

Both juveniles were evaluated by emergency medical services. The male was transported to the Johnston County Juvenile Counselor’s Office in Smithfield, while the female was taken to the Johnston County Detention Center. Authorities indicated both are expected to be transferred to a juvenile detention facility in Raleigh.

The driver faces multiple felony charges, including speeding to elude arrest, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of a stolen firearm, and felony hit and run involving serious injury. The passenger was charged with felony leaving the scene of a collision as a passenger. Because the suspects are juveniles, their names were not officially released, though court records identified the passenger as Layana Litalien. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
