Investigators determined that the Toyota, driven by 16-year-old Comfort Antwi, was traveling north on West Sugar Creek Road when it crossed the center line and struck the BMW head-on. Both vehicles sustained significant damage as a result of the impact.
Emergency crews from Charlotte Fire and MEDIC arrived at the scene and transported Antwi to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the BMW X3 was also taken to the hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, Antwi succumbed to her injuries on Monday, January 5, and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Her next of kin has been notified.
Detectives from the CMPD Major Crash Investigation Unit and members of the DWI Task Force responded to conduct a detailed investigation.
