Davidson County, NC (July 22, 2026) - Authorities confirmed through local reports and North Carolina State Highway Patrol statements that a three-vehicle crash occurred on US-64 shortly after 8:30 p.m. Sources reported times ranging from approximately 8:32 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. The collision was reported near Cunningham Brick Yard Road, with another local account describing the area as US-64 and Heath Church Road.
Carrie Garner Craver, 48, of Lexington, was driving a 2016 Ford Flex east on US-64. According to the Highway Patrol, Craver stopped with her left turn signal activated while waiting for westbound traffic to clear so she could turn into her driveway. An eastbound 18-wheeler traveling behind the Ford failed to reduce its speed and struck the rear of the vehicle.
The impact pushed the Ford into the westbound lane, where it collided with a 2015 Toyota Highlander. The Ford then traveled off the left side of the roadway and overturned in a ditch. The Toyota came to rest on US-64 facing north.
After the initial impact, the tractor-trailer crossed the center line and left the roadway. It struck a utility pole before colliding with a tree and coming to rest in a ditch. The damaged utility pole caused a power outage in the surrounding area.
Craver was pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor-trailer driver, identified as Harland Anthony Holshouser, 26, of Bolivia, North Carolina, was airlifted to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem with serious injuries. The Toyota driver, Kevin Lee Shore, 38, of Thomasville, was transported by Davidson County EMS to Lexington Memorial Medical Center with minor injuries.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol continued investigating the sequence of events. Troopers said impairment was not believed to have contributed to the crash. Local reports also stated that charges were likely to be filed against the tractor-trailer driver, although the materials provided did not confirm that charges had been formally issued.
How Serious Roadway Collisions Are Reviewed
A major roadway collision can lead to several separate reviews involving law enforcement records, vehicle damage, medical information, and insurance procedures. Investigators generally begin by documenting where each vehicle traveled, where the impacts occurred, and where the vehicles stopped. Photographs, roadway markings, electronic vehicle information, witness accounts, and available video may help establish a more complete sequence.
Roadway and environmental conditions may also be examined. Visibility, lighting, traffic volume, weather, road design, construction activity, and the condition of traffic controls can affect how investigators understand an event. These details are considered alongside driver statements and physical evidence rather than viewed in isolation.
When a serious truck crash occurs, the physical, financial, and insurance issues can quickly become difficult for injured people and their families to manage. Learning how evidence is reviewed, how commercial insurance coverage may apply, and what deadlines could affect a claim can help provide a clearer picture of the road ahead. A semi truck accident lawyer in North Carolina can review the circumstances, explain available options, and help address questions that may arise after a collision involving a large commercial vehicle.
Injury documentation often develops over time. Emergency records provide an early picture, while follow-up evaluations may identify continuing pain, limited movement, treatment needs, or time away from work. Insurers may compare these records with crash reports and vehicle damage when reviewing claims connected with a serious collision.
How Evidence Can Affect Accountability And Insurance Decisions
Responsibility in a semi-truck accident situation is generally evaluated through documented facts. Investigators and insurance carriers may consider driver conduct, vehicle condition, company records, traffic laws, and the physical evidence collected at the scene. An official report can be important, but it may not contain every document later considered during an insurance review or civil claim.
Insurance evaluations frequently rely on:
- Crash reports and supplemental investigative findings
- Photographs showing vehicle damage and roadway conditions
- Medical records connecting injuries with the reported event
- Driver logs, inspection records, and vehicle data when available
- Statements from drivers, passengers, and independent witnesses
Commercial vehicle matters may involve more than one insurance policy or business entity. Questions can arise about vehicle ownership, maintenance duties, cargo operations, driver employment, and the scope of available coverage. Disagreements may also develop over medical expenses, lost income, long-term care needs, or the value of other documented losses.
What Davidson County Families May Face After a Fatal Crash
Once the initial investigation progresses, families may begin receiving requests for records, statements, authorizations, and information about insurance coverage. Much of this activity happens outside public view as carriers review liability, medical documentation, available policies, and potential losses. Keeping copies of correspondence and understanding what a requested document permits can help families follow the process more carefully.
Rosensteel Fleishman helps individuals and families examine the legal and insurance issues that may follow serious roadway incidents. Attorney Matthew Fleishman explains the firm’s approach this way: “Families deserve straightforward answers about what is happening, what information matters, and what decisions may come next.”

Important early steps may include preserving photographs, keeping medical and expense records, obtaining the official crash report, and documenting communications with insurance representatives. In cases involving a commercial truck, records held by a carrier or related business may also become relevant to the review.
