Murfreesboro, NC (August 21, 2026) - Local news reports state that a three-vehicle crash shortly before 5 p.m. Friday claimed the life of Breiana Latrice Boyce, 30, of Roanoke Rapids.

According to the reported North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigation, Boyce was driving a 2023 Nissan north on Charlie Powell Road and attempting to cross the Murfreesboro Bypass, also known as US-158/US-258. Her vehicle collided in the intersection with a westbound 2025 GMC Sierra driven by Brian Jones, 52, of Chesapeake, Virginia. The GMC was towing a trailer carrying two jet skis.

Following the collision, the Nissan traveled off the left side of the road, struck a stop sign and a ditch, and caught fire. Boyce was pronounced dead at the scene. The GMC traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a ditch.

Jones and his passenger, Erin Jones, 43, also of Chesapeake, were not seriously injured. A Ford SUV driven by Kimberly Brooks, 48, of Murfreesboro, was stopped at a stop sign on the opposite side of Charlie Powell Road. Brooks and her passenger, Clarice Wiggins, 72, of Ahoskie, were not injured when debris reached their vehicle. No charges were reported. The death was reported as the sixth traffic fatality in Hertford County and the 10th within the North Carolina State Highway Patrol Troop A District II area this year.
