Davidson County, NC (August 24, 2026) - Information obtained from local news reports and North Carolina State Highway Patrol statements confirms that two drivers died and a child suffered serious injuries in a head-on collision on NC-8. A trooper was dispatched at approximately 8:16 p.m. to the crash scene north of High Meadows Drive following reports of entrapment and an ejection.

Investigators said a 2004 Lincoln Town Car was traveling south on NC-8 when it crossed the double yellow line and struck a northbound 1993 Honda Civic Del Sol head-on. The Honda also left the road and came to rest facing east after its driver was ejected.

The Honda driver, Austin Ray Bowden, 29, of Linwood, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Lincoln driver, Kelly Cross Young, 43, of Lexington, died from her injuries while emergency personnel were preparing to transport her by air ambulance.

Young’s 8-year-old daughter was riding in the front passenger seat of the Lincoln. Davidson County EMS transported the child to Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem with serious injuries. Highway Patrol officials reported that none of the three occupants involved in the collision were wearing seat belts.
